Great Eye

Great Eye (2023)

This exhibition includes work about the implications of AI agency (retire.ai, sing.ai), virtual children (Baby), surveillance cameras falling asleep (Drifting Off), doom-scrolling and ASMR before bed (Cave 2 and Peripheral), computer vision (Eigenface and Image May Contain), the inaccessibility of physical homes (Cave 3), tools for invisibility online (Tape), green screen paint as a living material (Chroma), and the relationship between digital degradation and biological degradation (Error Clouds).

The title, “Great Eye,” was arrived at after feeding ChatGPT various text prompts. The specific prompt was “write an avant garde prose poem about surveillance and our intimate relationship with the digital world”. Great Eye also happens to be another name for the Eye of Sauron, a giant all-seeing eye from the Lord of the Rings.
